The course will be comprised of ten sessions beginning in June 2007 and ending in March 2008. One
Session will be held along with the annual conference/meeting of AAID. Most sessions will have lectures,
hands on exercises, surgical demonstrations and supervised surgical procedures performed by the course
participants and faculty members.
Sessions will include:
- An applied head and neck anatomy discussion.
- Training in Advanced Life Support and Medical Emergencies.
- A staff training session to prepare each dental practice for the expanded duties involved in implant dentistry.
- An intensive learning experience with repetitive training concepts similar to a hospital training program.
- Lectures, laboratory exercises, surgical demonstrations and supervised hands-on surgical session used to develop skills for each procedure.
- Closed circuit TV coverage of live procedures relayed into the main lecture room to enable all participants to observe surgical sessions close up. Participants will be encouraged to implement many of the procedures directly into their dental practices.
- Presentations by outstanding educators and clinicians.
- Routine Examinations to help and encourage understanding of the basic concepts.
- Certificates awarded on the successful completion of the program.
Participant Supervised Surgical Session
During the year course, participants will have the opportunity to perform procedures on patients
they bring to the course Venue. Participants will be assisted and supervised by faculty members
who may perform part of the procedure depending on its complexity and the level of skill of the
participant dentist.

During the course, participants will have the opportunity to bring their patients to the course venue
to perform procedures on them. Participants will be assisted and supervised by faculty members
who may perform part of the procedure as is appropriate upon the consent of the patient and the
treating dentist. The session will introduce participants to the surgical treatments that will be
performed during the surgical sessions. There will be lectures on the procedures followed by
surgical demonstrations. The objective is to start participants performing surgeries early on in the course.

SESSION OBJECTIVES
- To develop a cohesive friendly and cooperative group from the outset, ensuring the smooth and
efficient running of the surgical sessions.
- To develop the concept of the Team approach to treatment of patients.
- To develop the concept of a caring approach to patients during and after their treatment.
- To introduce the concepts of patient selection, comprehensive treatment planning, infection
control and surgical protocols.
- To introduce marketing concepts.
- To help participants develop understanding of suitable patients to bring to the surgical sessions.
